It is an open charity golf tournament to raise money for the Doernbecher Children's Hospital.

"The support of the Kiwanis Doernbecher Children's Cancer Program (KDCCP) Greater Portland Golf Tournament enables the Doernbecher staff to provide the most advanced therapies to children battling cancer."

Kiwanians participate on the golf committee which procures sponsors, prizes and volunteers to run the event. They also volunteer on the day of the event doing such things as managing registration, running the games on game holes, manning the water/refreshment cart, setting up and taking down of signs etc.
